US Camps FAQ

Where does the program take place?

Blair Academy is a coeducational, boarding and day school for students in high school. The school serves students from ninth through twelfth grades as well as a small post-graduate class. The school’s campus is located on a 463 acres campus in Blairstown Township in Warren County, New Jersey, approximately 60 miles  west of New York City.

How many courts does the Blair academy have?

the squash center at Blair has 7 courts, all of which will be used for camp. In addition, the facility has two private fitness centers, basketball gym, swimming pool and training room, which will also be available to all campers.

Is the facility air-conditioned?

yes

How many hours of training per day are scheduled?

Not more than five hours per day, in two separate sessions. The quality of practice, not the quantity, matters. Since a ratio of two players per court is always maintained, campers never experience any waiting time during practices. The intensity of the program makes it unhealthy for the campers to practice more than five hours per day.

Do we have to attend the education program?

No, all education programs are optional and free of charge. We do encourage campers to attend one education program as it will improve the overall experience of our summer program.

How many campers attend each session?

On average, there are no more than 35 campers per session. Since there are twelve courts at the Simon Squash center the campers are divided into four training groups of ten for the week. The groups will rotate through four different training stations in the morning (fitness sessions, drilling sessions, technique sessions and video analysis). We guarantee a two for one campers/ court ratio at all time!

How many coaches will attend each session?

There are eight coaches for a 35 camper session: 2 head coaches, 1 assistant coaches, 1 junior coaches, 1 fitness coach.

Who are the head coaches for each session?

Squash and Beyond employs some of the best coaches and players in the world. The coaches for each session are listed on each session descriptions. A few of our regular coaches are Zafi levy (Head coach at Williams College), Alister Walker (Williams College), Fabio Cechin (Agnes Irwin school), Graham Williams (PA Cricket club), Jim Moore (Blair Academy).

Where do the campers eat and sleep?

Squash and Beyond will use Lakeside dorm throughout the summer. Most campers will receive a private room in a dorm that features, a kitchen, TV room, library, a laundry room, and vending machines. Most meals throughout camp will be served at the Blair Academy dining hall.

What kind of supervision does the camp offer during the day?

During each day during the week,  Squash and Beyond employs a full time trainer that will supervise all squash sessions. Outside of the squash facility, campers will be supervised by our coaches during all night activities and at the dorm.

What kind of supervision does the camp offer during the night?

During the night, Squash and Beyond coaches and staff will sleep at the dorm with the campers and will supervise and assist the campers with any crisis during the night. Each floor at the dorm will host a coach and their rooms will be marked so that campers know where to seek help.

What is the male/female ratio for each session?

Our goal is to have a ratio of 1:1 between male and female campers for each session though most sessions have more boys than girls.

Is there a separation between male and female campers in the dorms?

Yes, male and female campers sleep on different floors in the dorms and use separate designated bathrooms. The camp employs at least one female counselor each week to assist female campers with any problems at the dorm.

Can we participate in two sessions this summer?

Yes, it is possible upon request. Campers are allowed to stay at the dorm during the weekend between two sessions for a fee of $165 which will cover all room and board costs for the extra two days.

How much do the night activities cost?

During the registration process on Sunday we will collect $100 from each camper to cover all costs of night activities during the week. The only expense which will not be covered during the week will be Ice-Cream and spending money at the movies. we recommend parents to leave 50$ to cover for all other minor expenses during the week.

What should the campers bring with them to camp?

Campers should be responsible to bring their own bed linens (single bed), enough clothes for twelve squash sessions, a bathing suit, towels, outdoor shoes, comfortable clothes for night activities, a small fan, and some spending money (no more than $50). please view the important information tab on the menu bar for more details information.

Is each week of camp is catered toward a different age group?

At Squash and Beyond we designate each week for a specific age group. Super Elite and Advance Elite sessions are designated for older kids (age 14-18). Elite sessions are designated for younger kids (age 9-14). We are committed to improve squash players at all ages and levels. In order to qualify for any of the four Super elite sessions we offer during the summer, each player will have to maintain a predetermined standard. Our goal is to form a competitive environment for all players; therefore we guarantee to register players with similar standards of playing for each week.

What if my son/daughter has food allergies?

We deal with these issues frequently. During the first day of camp, our trainer will meet individually with each camper that has any food allergies and make sure the kid is aware of the problem . Most campers who has food allergies carry with them the necessary medication for emergency situation and are responsible to stay away from any food that will trigger a bad reaction. All foods at the dinning hall are properly marked so that campers can easily determine weather the food is appropriate for them or not. Our coaches and counselors at the dorm can assist any camper in need around the clock.
