Summer 2021

Dear Parents,

Squash and Beyond is pleased to announce that we will be offering six weeks of squash camp during the summer of 2021. Like everyone, we have been required to shift gears; Williams College, our home for 18 years, will still be closed to camps until 2022. Fortunately, Blair Academy in northwest New Jersey has agreed to host all our sessions this summer and we couldn’t be more pleased.

We have run sessions at Blair before. A boarding school that draws its 460 students from all over the world, Blair is at once less than an hour from Newark airport and nestled among over 400 bucolic acres. The school’s air-conditioned squash center boasts seven Anderson-constructed courts and is surrounded by Blair’s extensive athletic facilities, which feature, among other things, a nine-hole golf course. The air conditioned dormitory where campers will be staying is less than 50 yards from the squash center. The dining hall and health center are no more than a few hundred yards away.

Of course, Squash and Beyond will offer the same high-level coaching during our sessions. Williams College coach Zafi Levy will direct a staff of world-class coaches, including former head coach of the England National Team, the legendary David Pearson, former world #12 and celebrated teaching professional Alistair Walker, and South African champion, Mike Tootill. In addition, Jim Moore and Doug Compton, Blair Academy’s varsity coaches will assist throughout the summer.

When not playing squash, campers will have the opportunity to work on academic skills, play golf, and take advantage of other features of the campus. Jim Moore, who is also Blair’s English department chair, will direct the academic program, which will feature writing, science, math, and foreign language instruction. Every afternoon, golfers will tee-off hole #1, which is 100 yards from the squash courts and play a round or two. Experienced fishing enthusiasts and beginners alike will be supervised and receive fly-fishing instruction on Blair’s two on-campus lakes. And while there are a number of restaurants and other attractions in town, Squash and Beyond campers need not leave the campus at all in search of things to do.

Of course, Squash and Beyond and Blair have worked together to develop a COVID protocol to minimize the risk of infection. That protocol includes a limit of 30 campers per session and limited, if any, activity off campus. We’ll be happy to discuss the details with any parents who want to know more.

We are looking forward to a great summer at Blair Academy this summer and hope your sons and daughters will join us.

Sincerely,
Zafi Levy — Squash and Beyond Director
