Neil Guirey :: English regional coach

Neil has been coaching for 12 years since completing a Sports Science course at college. Previous to this Neil had been a member of the England National Squad at every junior level, where he then decided to go down the coaching  route after being offered a coaching role at the Hallamshire Tennis and squash Club in Sheffield, home to the British Junior Open.

After securing the combined role of Director of Squash at the University of Leeds and Chapel Allerton Tennis and Squash Club some 10 years ago, Neil has lived in the city ever since creating and developing a squash coaching program that caters for both the participation and performance end of the scale.

During this period, Neil has developed a junior squash coaching program that has over 100 active members and had a highly successful schools program that appeals to schools across the city. The performance program Neil oversees at the club has over 20 world top 100 players training regularly out of Chapel Allerton, headed by World No12 Alister Walker and current European Champion Carrie Ramsey. Neil, manages the recently formed Premier Squash League Team that represent the club, and are current National Champions, a league that includes the world’s top male and female players.

As the touring coach of World #2 ,Nick Matthew,  Neil travels globally to major tournaments, a key factor in Nick achieving his life time ambition of becoming the world’s best squash player. In recognition of the work and achievements over the past 12 years, England Squash has invited Neil to help head up the coaching in their program from junior and transitional squads through to full senior squads. This included helping run this summer’s Commonwealth Games preparation squads which was a massive contribution to the hugely successful Games the players experienced, which included a considerable medal haul.
